Kyffins Spring Competition August 2016
After a windy start on the friday the weather turned to fantastic for the remainder of the weekend for the Association to conduct their Annual Cod closing weekend at Kyffins Reserve, Lake Mulwala on August 26/27/28 2016.
The event was well attended with 120 men, women and kids from 10 clubs entering the competition.
Only 30 fish were recorded overall with 13 of those making the "legal' size.
The option of the dispersed camping on the reserve combined with the Park type stay at the adjoining DC on the Lake proved to be a winner with a large number taking the on-site cabins or the powered sites at DC , while many still preferred the traditional fishing camp at the reserve.
The host clubs (Berrigan, SRHC, & Tocumwal) must be congratulated on the abundance of food, the raging camp fire , and the all round efforts to make thIs an excellent weekend.
A few awards were made and included:
Best Fish kept by a senior Graham O'Regan from Kinross with a 720 Ccd.
Best Fish released by a senior. Ken Sutton from Berrigan with a 660 cod
Best fish by a junior went to Tallen Zeinert from Burrumbuttock with a 585 cod.
Runner up best fish by a junior went to Montanah Kenny with a 560 cod.
Special ladies awards went to Stacey Swan with a 560cod and Nikki Jans with a 565 cod and both were from Lavington.
The best bag award was a holiday package at DC on the Lake and sponsored by "Roadside Services", this went to Graham O'Regan from Kinross.
The Shining Light Award, an encouragement award for the juniors was won by Tallen Zeinert from Burrumbuttock.
The Best Attendance from a club went to Walbundrie with a role up of 32.
The Champion Club Perpetual Trophy went to Berriagn once again and this club is becoming hard to beat at this competition.
A couple of lucky entrant draws were the final presentation and the "Jim Muirhead Earthmoving " award went to Terry Maloney from Walbundrie and another holiday package sponsored by DC on the Lake went to Daria Kotzur also from Walbundrie.
The association was pleased with the event overall and the growing number of ladies and especially the kids that are coming along for the weekend is very encouraging.
South West Anglers Albury/Wodonga River Classic
The weather was fantastic, the river was running a banker, the fish were not all that co-operative but over 120 people enjoyed a great one day fishing competition on the Murray.A large portion of the crowd were kids and family groups and that was the main focus of the event.
To begin proceedings a presentation was made to Cooper Ayers (the kid in the poster) Cooper is from Thurgoona and his contribution was very much appreciated by the organisers.
An amazing array of prizes was made available by our sponsors and Nathan Lock (Wodonga) picked up a Garmin Sounder and a PFD lifejacket for his cod by an adult. The junior cod award went to little Lewis Merlin ( Thurgoona) Lewis is only 4 years old but now is the proud owner of a canoe package from BCF.

SPRING COMPETITION ( August 2015)
The South West Anglers annual spring competition was again conducted at Kyffins Reserve on the banks of Lake Mulwala on the weekend of 28/29/30 of August 2015.With a considerable amount of rain in the lead up and a persistant wind blowing across the Lake for most of the weekend the attendance was down a little on last years record crowd.
A total of 9 clubs were registered ( Berrigan, Walbundrie, Burrumbuttock, Jindera, Corowa, Tocumwal, Lavington, Southern Riverina Hunting Club and Kinross) and around 100 fishers braved the elements with at least some being rewarded for their efforts.
Some 26 Cod ranging from 430mm to 980mm along with one Yellow Belly at 450mm.were recorded.
Davey Fox from Berrigan topped the score card with the 980mm speciman but only just shaded Jerry Lafferty from Walbundrie with his 930mm effort. Of particular interest was the fact that Jerry caught his fish off the grass at DC on the Lake, proving that the Park not only has great accomodation but also good fishing.
Burrumbuttock junior Ethan Barry recorded the best fish by a junior with a 765 cod and also backed up with the best bag by a junior.
Walbundrie President Adam Lieschke had the unique experience of accepting the Trophy for the best club attendance for the second time in 2015. Walbundrie now hold both the attendance awards for 2015 after also collecting at the Buckingbong Comp.Adam also had the unique experience of breaking both of the Trophies in the same year, an effort that will take some beating. But if you don't win them you can't break them and that makes some of the clubs safe from the expense of repairs!
Berrigan were successful in winning the Champion Club award for the fifth year in succession and that is a great testament to the efforts that the Berrigan members put into this event. However the challenge is out there for any club to have a crack and maybe dethrone the champs next year.
